Professor Mauro Ribeiro Viegas receives tribute from the Society of Engineers and Architects of the State of Rio de Janeiro

The Society of Engineers and Architects of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Seaerj) promotes a solemn session today, December 15, at 6 pm, to honor two architects with the Affonso Eduardo Reidy medal. Annually, Seaerj recognizes the professionals who contributed to excellence and revolutionized the practice of architecture in Brazil. One of the 2021 honorees is the architect, urban planner and professor Mauro Ribeiro Viegas, founder of Concremat.   The story of Professor Mauro Ribeiro Viegas   Mauro Ribeiro Viegas is an architect and urban planner and was a professor of construction materials and soil studies, author of several technical works. As an urban planner, he was in charge of the parks and gardens of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Likewise, he collaborated in the construction of Brasília, where he set up the pioneering construction analysis laboratory. He also continued the popular housing program of the Lacerda government and, as president of the Companhia de Habitação Popular (COHAB) – under the responsibility of municipal governments during the Negrão Lima administration –, he modified the Cidade de Deus, which was previously composed of socially poorly constructed buildings. , transforming it into small housing projects and residential nuclei.   Graduated in 1945 from the National Faculty of Architecture, Professor Mauro founded Concremat, in 1952, as the first Brazilian private laboratory for the systemic control of concrete structures and their materials. Today Concremat is one of the largest Project and Consulting companies in Brazil according to the survey “500 Grandes da Construção”, by the magazine O Empreiteiro. It also occupies the 30th position in the list of the 150 most innovative companies in Brazil, prepared by the newspaper Valor Econômico. In 2022, Concremat turns 70 years old.
