Concremat rises to the 30th position among the 150 most innovative companies in Brazil

For the fifth consecutive year, Concremat stands out in the Construction and Engineering category of the Valor Inovação Brasil ranking – ranking 4th in the 2021 edition of the award. In the general ranking, Concremat rose to 30th position – an expressive growth compared to last year, when it was in 71st place.

The survey, which is in its seventh edition and is promoted by the newspaper Valor Econômico and the consultancy Strategy&, of the PwC group, evaluates the 150 companies that invest the most in innovation in Brazil. This year, the survey was supported by the National Association for Research and Development of Innovative Companies (Anpei). In addition to the general ranking, the analysis identifies the degree of innovation of companies by operating segments, in a total of 23 sectors evaluated in 2021. Only companies with a minimum of 5% private capital and minimum net revenue of R$ 500 million participate in the survey. .

This year, 226 companies signed up for the survey and answered the questionnaire prepared by the ranking organization. Between the years 2017 and 2021, the average grade of the participants increased by 12%, registering a growth of 3% per year. In the comparison between 2020 and 2021, the jump was 7%.

The analyzes are guided by the concept of innovation adopted for the research, which seeks to identify ideas and initiatives that create value for companies through new products, processes, business models and services. The 5 criteria used to evaluate companies, based on this concept, were strategic intention to innovate; the effort and resources allocated; the results achieved; the citations among the participants themselves and the patents published in the respective year. Network actions, related to the way companies connect different businesses to innovation projects, are also considered.

In a report published in the special magazine of the ranking, the executive president of Concremat, Mauro Viegas Neto, stated that innovation lies at the very origin of the company, founded 70 years ago by two professors. “With the company, at that time, the first building materials laboratory in the country was born. Even for this reason, the company has always had a culture of valuing innovation initiatives and projects”, he emphasizes.

Mauro highlighted that the main project currently developed by the company is known internally as Management 4.0. It is a fully digital mobile platform through which the administrator can manage the work in the field through an application. “It has already been implemented in 75 projects and has the potential to reach 130”, he says.

The platform is developed by startup Stan, in which Concremat acquired a 30% stake, in its first corporate venture capital move – and which opened the door to open innovation. The acquisition took place two years after the platform began to be adopted by the company for the simultaneous management of several works.

The report also highlights that Concremat has historically invested between 1% and 2% of its net revenue in innovation initiatives and that, in 2020, it was BRL 6 million for a revenue of BRL 574 million.
